Khusrau Mirza was the eldest son of Jahangir. Manbhawathi Bai, the first wife of Jahangir, gave birth to Khusrau Mirza.
Khusrau was the eldest son of Jahangir by 'Shah Begum', daughter of Raja Bhagwan Das of Amber. At the age of 18, Khusrau rebelled against his father and was imprisoned.

Jahangir ordered the execution of Sikh Guru Arjan Dev Singh due to political and religious reasons. Arjan Dev Singh had actively supported his Sikh followers and the growth of Sikhism, which went against Jahangir's political agenda of promoting his own version of Islam in the region. Jahangir also perceived Sikhism as a threat to his authority.

In 1622, his son Shah Jahan also turned a rebel. However, Shah Jahan's revolt was unsuccessful and he offered his submission. But, Mahabat Khan, one of his generals, imprisoned Jahangir in 1626. This time Nur Jahan was able to free Jahangir.
Emperor Jahangir had five sons: Khusrau by Shah Begum, Parveiz by Sahibi Jamal, Khurram (Later Shah Jahan) by Jodh Bai, Shahryar & Jahandar. His two daughters were Sultan-un-nisa begum by Shah Begum and Bihar Banu Begum by Karamsi. Jahangir was succeeded by his third son Shah Jahan.

Shah Jahan was the third son of Jahangir. Jahangir's eldest sons Khusrau and Parveiz had died before their father. After Jahangir's death, Empress Nur Jahan wished to place her son-in-law Shahryar on the throne. But Nur Jahan's brother and wazir of the Kingdom, Asaf Khan, helped Shah Jahan to ascend the throne after defeating Shahryar.
