The Iliad tells a story of a few weeks towards the end of a decade-long Greek piratical raid on the coast of Asia Minor. Other poems, tales and pottery tell more bits about it. There is no book about the Trojan story from antiquity.

The Iliad tells the story of the?

It tells a few weeks of the legendary 10 years of the Trojan War.It is more properly called The Wrath of Achilles - how Achilles was overcome with anger when king Agamemnon pinched his favourite slave girl, sulked in his tent until Hector killed his boyfriend Patrocolos, then reentered battle, killed Hector and humiliated his body.

Are the anead Iliad and the oddesy the same story?

No. Both epic poems were written by Homer (Greek). The Iliad tells the story of the Trojan War, about the last year of the war. The chief protagonists are Achilles, Agamemnon, Patroclus, Hector, Paris. The Odyssey is about a Greek hero, Odysseus. After the Trojan War, he started his 10 year long journey home (to Itacha), where everybody thought he was dead. Only his wife Penelpoe believed that he would come home. On his journey he had many adventures (the one-eyed Polyphemus, the Sirens, Circe, etc) and finally he got home.

What is the difference between the contents of the story of The Iliad and The Odyssey?

The Iliad is a story about something that happened during the Trojan War. It takes place at the beginning of the tenth year of the war. It tells how the Greek hero Achilles became angry at the Greek commander and withdrew from the fighting. How his friend Patroclus, trying to take his place, was killed in battle by the Trojan hero Hector. Achilles, even more enraged, returns to battle and kills Hector but refuses to return his body for proper burial, instead dragging it around behind his chariot for days. Eventually Hector's father, King Priam, goes pesonally to Achilles to beg for his son's body. Achilles relents and returns it. The Odyssey on the other hand takes place after the Trojan War. It tells of the adventures of the Greek Hero Odysseus in trying to get home after the war and how, after many wanderings and adventures he has to fight to regain his kingdom which had only been barely preserved for him by the pluck and courage of his faithful wife.
