It was stated the rear-engined and air-cooled Corvair had the most tendencies to catch fire- possibly due to aft motor mounting- plus a tendency to flip- which could cause combustible elements to ignite.

Added: The sub-compact Ford Pinto, produced for a short while in the 1960's, also compiled a bad record of fiery accidents due to its lightweight (flimsy?) construction and a poor desing which placed its gas tank at the very rear of the vehicle making it extremely vulnerable in rear end collisions.
