How are Odysseus and his men described?

Odysseus and his men are described in many ways. How they are described is dictated by whose book you're reading from. Homer, who is credited for writing the Odyssey, would describe them favorably. The most common description would have that Odysseus was very intelligent, he was the man who thought up the Trojan horse. Other writers such as John Erskine thought of Odysseus as a coward and not worthy of being called a Greek hero.Books you may find helpful: The Odyssey and Penelope's Man

What is the original model or pattern from which other models are made?

An archetype.eg) Odysseus represents the archetype of a heroic character.>>>>I beg to differ - somewhat. An archetype is the original of which a model is made. It is, more strictly speaking, a meta-model. Hence, the use of the prefix "Arche" to the general "type".For instance, looking at Odysseus, we could say something like:A good heroic character has the following qualities:1. Internal conflict.2. A possibility of failure.3. Human foibles.4. Courage when others have given up.5. etc. This is the actual model. To the extent that another character conforms to this model, they are more or less like the ideal heroic character.
