Jack (John) McCall, on Aug. 30, 1876, at 3:00, in Deadwood, S. Dakota, (Dakota Territory),while playing Poker. He was shot in the back of the head with the bullet coming out the centre of his right cheek causing instant death. He was holding 2 aces and 2 eights(two pairs) known to this day as "the dead man's hand" It was published on the Black Hills Pioneer, with headlines reading: Assassination Of Wild Bill He Was Shot Through The Head.
According to James Mic Regan, author of the newly released book, Wild Bill Hickok and the Wrath of the Dead Rabbits (Signalman Publishing, ISBN: 978-1935991328), Wild Bill Hickok was killed on August 2, 1876 while playing poker in the Number 10 Saloon in Deadwood, Dakota Territory (now South Dakota). The killing allegedly was in revenge of Wild Bill's earlier shooting of a member of an Irish-American gang. Jack McCall was the scapegoat and was not actually the killer. At first, he was found innocent at trial, but when he backtracked on the prior "deal" with the gang, he was taken to trial again, found guilty and hanged.

Martha Jane Cannary, known as Calamity Jane (1852-1903), was a notorious American frontier woman in the days of the Wild West. She usually dressed in men's clothing and passed as a man to get jobs such as a muleskinner, railroad worker, and army scout. She could drink, gamble, and shoot with the best (or worst) of her male companions. For a while she travelled with Wild Bill Hickok and was in Deadwood when he was killed. She later claimed they had been married and she was buried beside him.
