In 1660, the largest settled areas in terms of cosines were primarily in regions such as New England, parts of the Middle Atlantic, and the Chesapeake Bay area in North America, as European colonial expansion was underway. The Puritans had established significant settlements in Massachusetts, while other colonies like Virginia and Maryland were also growing. These regions benefited from fertile land and access to resources, leading to increased population and settlement density during that period.
