Lessor satellite nations of the Communist Superpowers (USSR/Red China) followed the lead of the Communist Superpowers. Britain, France, NATO, recognized the US as the leader for the free world side.

∙ 15y agoThe Cold War was the NAME of a military stand-off between the USSR & US both of whom were armed with Nuclear Weapons. The Atomic Weapons created the Cold War. There was no actual war fought.

∙ 13y agoThe Cold War was never an actual war. It was just a big rivalry between the United States and the former Soviet Union from the 1950s to 1991. After World War II, only the two countries were healthy enough to become the world's superpowers. The real argument between the US and the USSR was the form of government (Democracy vs. Communism). Both sides thought they had the better government, therefore starting the rivalry. Many events happened during this time period, including the Cuban Missile Crisis, U-2 Scare, the weapons race, the space race, the McCarthy Trials and many more.
The term "cold war" just means to have a conflict indirectly.
