Answer Poland. Germany and Russia signed an alliance before the war began. They started the war by invading Poland on 1 Sept 1939. Then later, Germany attacked Russia. Russia had thousands of Polish POWs interned in their country. England convinced Russia to release the Poles to be trained and equpped by the British.
The previous answer was way off. Hitler invited the USSR to invade on Sept. 17 because Hitler was afraid that Poland would reorganize their units on the Romanian Bridge Head. And when the Soviets invaded they lied to Polish civilians in order to cause confusion that they were helping Poland and not invade but of course nobody believed it. There were also several battles between Polish and Soviet troops. Also some battles where Polish troops had to fight against both German and Soviet troops at the same time.
Poland was divided up by the Non-Aggression Pact between Germany and the Soviet Union. Germany took the Western half, and Russia the Eastern half.
Poland was split between the two.

The Soviet Union signed the non-aggression act called the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact in Moscow on August 23, 1939. Officially the Treaty of Non-Aggression between Germany and the Soviet Union, it effectively allowed Germany and the USSR to divide Poland between them. It did not, however, deter Hitler from attacking the USSR, anyway, in June, 1941.
