In what year were East and West Germany separated?
At the end of World War II in 1945, Germany was separated into four occupation zones, administered by the Russians, British, French and Americans respectively. It was intended that Germany would eventually be reunified as a separate country. However due to the onset of the Cold War, Russia decided to create East Germany as a separate country under communist control, rather than give up control and let it become democratic/capitalist as it likely would have. The other three zones were reunited as the democratic country of West Germany.

Why was the US afraid of communism during the Vietnam War?
The Vietnam War was between North and South Vietnam. North Vietnam was a Communist country trying to take over and control South Vietnam, thus spreading Communism to another country. The spread of Communism was something the US did not find acceptable. The roots of Communism have come from Russia who we were competing with in making the most amount and most effective nuclear weapon. This again comes back to a country working to control the world.

Asked in The Red Scare
Why did the red scare occur in the US?
It happened during the cold war because people were scared of communism and its spread across the world. The theme of the cold war was the prevention of the spread of communism, and many people thought that communism was spreading inside the US. The US was extremely paranoid about communism, which led to its involvement in Vietnam and many other wars. In a nut shell, Americans were so paranoid that they thought communism was spreading in their own country.
