Both brands have some great sets in their ranges. I would suggest you go play them both at a music store and then decide which you like best.
Yes, I would recommend PDP. They sound nice and loud. A good series for PDP is the m5 series.

Sunlight Drum Sets are a nice kit, but If you would like a studio quality kit at a low price, The best kits are from DW, PDP, and Pearl.
Gretsch Energy Series, Sonar, PearlVision, PDP and Drum Craft all offer complete drum sets for under $100. Yamaha and Kat offer electronic drum sets for under $500.

I would recommend pearl drums for the quality but if you are looking for a cheaper price i would recommend buying a pdp or mapex drumset.
