The "Death March of Bataan", after the fall of the Philippines in 1942. Over 80,000 filippinos and Americans were captured. There were far more than 600 Americans that died during the march. There were over 10,000 that died from torture, beatings and finally starvation. Others were executed along the march to POW camp, where conditions were extremey bleak. Many more died in this camp before they were put on Japanese freighters and sent to Japan to work in quarries and other places. Many died enroute on the ships because of American aircraft strafing and bombing these ships-not knowing there were American and fillippino prisoners in these ships. By the end of the war, less than half of these men were still alive.
