== == Anti-submarine weapons like ASDIC and better use of escort ships, and long range air craft patrols. By the way, the VAST majority of the escort vessels were NOT from the ALLIES, they were CANADIAN ships. The Royal Canadian Navy became the world leaders in anti submarine warfare in WW2. They sunk more German U boats than any other navy in ww2. They also developed and perfected a wide range of weapons and tactics that were copied by other naval services.

The allies took a direct approach to win the Atlantic. In Japan there are many many many small islands. However, the Allies bypassed most of these islands and stormed only critical vantage points along the islandic string. The marines were almost entirely in the Atlantic, not Europe, and they fought along the Naval and Army Forces to drive back the Japanese in island skirmishes. Once all the vantage points were taken, the Allies eradicated the Japanese from the small islands they had bypassed earlier in the War. These events then led up to the shortages of Japanese supplies, and eventually, the dropping of 2 atomic bombs on Japan.
