umbilical cord
The blood goes from the mother to the placenta where gas exchange occurs to the fetus. From the placenta the blood goes into the arterium and to the body of the fetus.
It nourishes the fetal pig.
The fetal circulation is the circulatory system of a human fetus, often encompassing the entire fetoplacental circulation that also includes the umbilical cord and the blood vessels within the placenta that carry fetal blood. The fetal circulation works differently from that of born humans, mainly because the lungs are not in use: the fetus obtains oxygen and nutrients from the mother through the placenta and the umbilical cord.
The umbilical cord contains the blood vessels that carry oxygenated and nutrient-rich food from the placenta to the fetus, and blood vessels that carry deoxygenated blood and nutrient-rich blood from the fetus to the placenta.

Oxygenation occurs in the placenta. After this blood then returns to the fetus via the umbilical vein.
The placenta. Deoxygenated blood flows to the placenta where the carbon dioxide is removed and oxygen added. Oxygen rich blood returns to the fetus. Blood is carried to and from the fetus by the umbilical cord.
The function of the umbilical vein is to deliver oxygenated blood from the placenta to the fetus. From the placenta, the umbilical vein courses through the liver via the ductus venosus (fetal shunt), connecting then to the inferior vena cava.
There are many blood vessels on the surface of the uterus which 'feed' the placenta. In the umbilical cord there are usually two arteries and one vein, the arteries taking deoxygenated blood from the fetus to the placenta and one vein taking oxygentated blood fron the placenta to the fetus. Occasionally there nmay be only a single umbilical artery which may be a sign of a kideny malformation in the fetus.
this is the function of the placenta, the mothers blood flows through capillaries that run very close to capillaries filled with the fetus' blood and the gases diffuse across due to the higher oxygen affinity of fetal haemoglobin.
The baby is connected by the umbilical cord to the placenta. The placenta is attached to the inside of the womb. Blood carries food through the blood vessels in the wall of the womb and the blood vessels of the placenta absorb the food.
The blood is "grown" by the fetus along with the organs and bones. The fetal blood supply is separate from the mother's. The two blood systems interact through the placenta - oxygen and food pass though to the fetal blood from the mother, waste products flow from the fetus to the mother.
