They eat what fit in their mouths....
Nocturnal fish are sutible with Oscars(ghost knife, pleco).
Larger fish are suitable (your Oscar will reach around 30cm so larger than that)
Most African ciclids are fine DO NOT MIX Malawi (eg choose jack dempsey, pacu, giant gourami, severums, parrot fish, birchir, fire eel, firemouth, eartheater/geophagus, girrafe, buffalo, paradise etc)
When introducing a new fish to an Oscar tank, rearrange the tank and do a large waterchange. this stops the Oscar attempting to protect its territory.
if the Oscar is much larger than say, the new Oscar or JD, remove the larger- rearrange tank- put new fish in for 2 days in with a blanket over tank then put big Oscar back in with covering on for a further 2 days. if this doesnt work it is likely you will need to grow the smaller Oscar out to a larger size first.
No more than 1 Oscar (exception a pair) req a 6x2x2 tank.
Not recommended. The Oscar will likely be attracted by the betta's long fins and will attack it, and possibly then eat it. Bettas should only be put in a community aquarium where the other fish are not 'nippers' and will leave the betta alone, but an Oscar might actually kill it. Also, if you put a betta in a community tank, only one male betta should be put into the tank or they will fight and kill each other.
An Oscar will definitely either eat the Betta if the Oscar is big enough, or it will rip the Betta to pieces if it is not big enough to eat it.
I assume you have at least an 8 foot by 2 foot by 2 foot tank if you are considering keeping something with Oscars. Other very large fish like Pacu, large Plecostomus, Jack Dempsey etc can be mixed with them but don't be surprised if terrible squabbles happen occasionally. A tank the size I mentioned will be just large enough for 2 Oscars, 2 Jack Dempseys and a Plecostomus. You will of course have a large power filter running permanently and do regular weekly water changes of at least 50%.
They can usually live with:
They may not get along with all the fish listed above but those are the best bet for tank mates and usually will get along.
Oscars are Freshwater Fish, and all corals require salt water and highly specialised equipment to thrive in an aquarium. So Oscars and live coral don't mix - however, an Oscar tank decorated with dead coral (prepared for aquarium use - do NOT collect it from a beach) or fake coral can look very effective if you do it well. High quality fake coral is almost indistinguishable from the real thing, provided you keep it in good condition - as with plastic plants, even the best fakes will soon start to look bad if algae is allowed to grow on them, as this never happens with real coral or plants.
Oscars are large, aggressive predatory south American cichlids; thus it is best to house them with other large, aggressive, predatory south American cichlids.
As far as I know, Oscars can not hybridize with other types of fish, so the answer is 'Other Oscar fish'.
Oscars can live with other oscars and they can live with ciclids and jack demseys
No
you can put a betta in a 54 gallon tank
No...betta fish are usually aggressive and might kill the angelfish.
No they cannot, also if you put two Betta fish together, they will fight.
Do not put any sharp angular things in the tank and do not put another type of fish in your betta's tank.
put it in a tank with another male betta
You should not put your Betta fish in the same tank in the first place, most likely the male will kill your other fish. by res do you mean red eared slider?
you can put a betta in a 5 gallon tank
they all fight to the death. Samantha
no they will kill each other bettas are vicous
anyother fish, they only fight with each other
Provided the tank is large enough and the catfish is a tropical species there should be no problems.
I asked a person at petsmart and they said never put them in the same tanks bc they get terroitorial and they will fight! So i wouldn't try putting 2 betta fish in the same tank. But you can buy a tank that has a splitter in the middle with a blue cover that's plastic. They still will be in the same tank and won't know it!
