The most common file format for documents is the Microsoft Word (.doc) file.

If you want maximum compatibility, you can try saving it as a Rich Text Format (.rtf) file, but you will lose a lot of formatting.

Microsoft Word's DOCX is not very compatible, to save it in Word 2007/2010 as default go to File > Options > Save > 'Word 97-2003 Document(*.doc)'

If they're just basic documents then .rtf or a .pdf would work.

If your looking for cross OS compatibility, Windows/Mac, and they are major documents, in order to keep all the extra's formatting then using .doc would be the best way otherwise you would have to save it as is required by the word processor to save the extras.

What is the rtf format?

RTF (Rich Text Format) is a standard language for formatting printed pages, such as word processor documents. RTF can be used as a "Bridge" between programs; for example if you have Microsoft Word and another word processor, and you wish to open a document in the other word processor, you could save the document as an RTF document in Microsoft word, then open the RTF document in the other word processor.

Save the resume document again, in a non-Microsoft format (RTF is good) and send that document as an attachment to an e-mail.

What is the difference between pdf and pdb?

Hello I think your question mentions to document file format. A PDF is Portable Document Format (PDF) is an open standard for document exchange. This file format, created by Adobe Systems in 1993, is used for representing documents in a manner independent of application software, hardware, and operating systems. And PDB in this situation, it refers to an e-book format for certain e-books, although it is not strictly a file type format unto itself. I got this kind of documents on my mobile phone, I used it to read books. So it seems there is no connection between PDF and PDB. They are just two different types of documents.
