The main gas is carbon dioxide (CO2) but there are many others.

A:Most carbon and oxides related gases, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrous oxide, tropospheric ozone, CFCs (freon)and HCFs plus methane. Most affecting are free radical catalysts like hydroxyl radicals (OH) nitric oxide radicals (NO) atomic chlorine (CI) and bromine. These are the major gases involved in global warming however many others are also involved but at a minimal level lets say a low significant level.

Carbon dioxide is the most serious problem, because it is a product of the combustion of hydrocarbons, such as petroleum. Methane is also a greenhouse gas, in that it will reflect heat back to the surface when it is in large concentrations in the atmosphere.

Water vapor (H2O) is the primary greenhouse gas, but water's role is moderated by other gases. Carbon dioxide is second, by volume. It is the gas most closely associated with anthropogenic global warming in that humans currently release over 30 billion (30,000,000,000) tons of it into the atmosphere each year, where it lingers and accumulates.

Listed Alphabetically they include: CFC's [and the more Modern One used to manufacture flat screen TVs - 2% of it is not recovered - of a gas 250 times more effective than CO2 and the other Green House Gases at Trapping Heat] - CH4; CO2, H2S, H2SO4.

Solid Carbon - soot - also absorbs Heat in the form of infra-red radiation, among others. Not done in yet. StndBy.

Well, green house gasses like CO2 and sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, sulphuric acids all cause global warming, global warming hapens because of these gasses, and man cutting down so much forested areas doesn't help in stopping global warming either.

Are humans causing climate change or is there something speeding up the process?

The vast majority of scientists accept that humans are causing climate change. The main contributors to climate change are the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation. Both these activities were caused by us. We have increased the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, and the natural result is that these capture more heat. There is nothing else involved except the sun's warmth which has remained constant all through.

How does global warming and climate change is affecting Brazil?

Brazil itself is the main cause of global warming and climate change as they are continuously chopping down the rainforests!

What level of government deals with climate change?

The Environmental Protection Agency, or EPA is one of the main federal agencies that tracks climate change. This organization works with other agencies as well such as the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, or IPCC.

What are the two main categories of factors causing climate change?

Human and Natural causes

Is human activity the main cause of climate change?

Human activity is the main cause of the present climate change. Burning fossil fuels and deforestation mean that the amount of greenhouse gas in the atmosphere has been gradually increasing since the start of the Industrial Revolution. This is causing an accelerated greenhouse effect, which is global warming, and this is causing climate change.

Why is it difficult to identify any single cause of climate change?

It is not difficult. The one single cause of climate change is global warming. There are several causes of global warming, but the two main causes are the burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas) and deforestation (cutting down trees which used to remove carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere). Both these mean more greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, and this is what is causing global warming which is causing climate change. Not difficult to identify at all!
