Afrodite (Αφροδίτη η θεά της ομορφιάς in greek) the goddess of beauty
Aphrodite
She was said to have originated from the foam off the coast of the island of Cythera.
In Greek mythology, Aphrodite is the goddess of love, beauty and sexual rapture. According to Hesiod, she was born when Uranus (the father of the gods) was castrated by his son Cronus. Cronus threw the severed genitals into the ocean which began to churn and foam about them. From the aphros ("sea foam") arose Aphrodite, and the sea carried her to either Cyprus or Cythera.

Cronos (the father of Zeus) cut off his father (Uranus)' genitals and threw them into the sea. There they impregnated the foam (Afros) and the sea gave birth to Aphrodite. Aphrodite is a sea goddess for many reasons, and is regularly shown emerging from the waves (usually onto her holy island of Cyprus) by Renaissance painters (most famously by Botticelli).
