How do wind farms not contribute to global warming?

Wind farms generate electricity using the power of the wind. There are no polluting carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, such as are released from fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas).

How is wind energy used to produce electricity?

According to the American Wind Energy Association, the forces of wind are converted to electricity through the use of a wind turbine. In a standard modern wind turbine kinetic energy from the win's moving air molecules is turned into rotational motion by the rotor. A rotor is a three-bladed device (looking like the rotor on a household fan except much larger) that sits at the front of the wind turbine. Wind causes the rotor to turn a shaft that transfers the motion to a nacelle, the large housing at the top of a wind turbine tower. Inside the nacelle, the rotating shaft enters a gearbox that increases the shaft's speed of rotation. The fast rotating shaft is connected to a generator that converts the movement into electricity and medium voltage. Once the wind has been converted into medium voltage electricity, equivalent to a few hundred volts, that electricity goes down through heavy electric cables in the tower to a transformer which is able to increase the voltage up to a few thousand volts - the distribution voltage. This voltage power, which flows more easily through electric lines, travels through underground lines to a collection area where the power can be combined with other wind turbines. This electricity from wind power is usually sent to nearby farms, homes and towns for usages. If it is not sent to towns and homes is it sent to a substation where the voltage is increased greatly to a few hundred thousand volts (called transmission-voltage power) to be sent through very tall transmission lines to distant cities and factories.

How many farms are they in Kenya?

There are many farms in Kenya. We have the vast large scale farms, middle range farms and the small/plot farms. These variety of farms is found all over the country.Take the Coast province for instance. It has vast sisal and palm tree farms as well as the small peasant farms. In total, these farms are many and are registered under the Ministry of Lands.

What can wind power be used for?

Modern wind turbine "farms" are used to rob kinetic energy out of the wind and convert it to electrical energy. By the time it joins the electric utility grid, you can't tell it from electricity that was generated from coal, oil, nuclear fission, natural gas, falling water, photovoltaic cells, or hamsters on treadmills. The wind turbine can be used to power anything that runs on electric power.

How is solar energy helpful?

We need solar energy so that we can stop polluting our environment and prevent global warming. Solar Energy is also used in Farms to power up the Solar Cells to then convert the Solar Energy to Electricity and the Electricity heats up the Green House keeping the plants warm.

How do coal power stations and wind farms generate electricity?

Coal power stations burn coal to heat water to produce steam, which is then used to spin electricity turbines to generate electricity. The burning coal releases carbon dioxide.Wind farms have blades which turn in the wind to spin electricity turbines to generate electricity. There are no harmful carbon dioxide emissions.

What is needed on solar energy farms?

As long as they have the sun, they can generate electricity. So the Sun :)

What is a system of many wind turbines which work together to generate electricity?

They are collectively known as "Wind Farms".

What are the advantages of wind farms on the environment?

yes they do they're powered by wind so they don't hurt anything but the birds that get caught in them and the drivers who get sidetrackted -from somone else.... lol

How will wind be used in 2138?

energy in the form of electricity is generate using windmills for this propose wind farms have been established.

WHY are windmill farms built?

They were built because the windmill allowed the farmers and their families to have electric lights and radio.

What are wind farms?

A wind farm is a large area of land in which wind mills are spread out. The more they spin they more energy they generate, they generate energy when the wind is anyway between 12 - 75 Kmph.

What do some people today use wind power for?

Wind power is being harnessed to generate electricity used in homes, businesses, offices, factories and farms.

What uses the kinetic energy of the the air to produce power?

Windmills. Most windmills use the wind to force a rotor to rotate which can generate electrcity. The main problem for this power source is being in the right place(some places rarely get enough wind to justify the expense of a windmill). There also concerns about ecological impact. Animals - birds mostly - have been killed by windmill farms. There concerns about the killing of endangered species by windmill farms that are near habitats of endangered birds. The debate over this continues, with no real 'end' or solution in sight.

What inventions helped settlers carve out farms on the plains?

The steel plow, the windmill, and barbed wire.

Is the wind used only to generate electricity?

No, it's also used to drive sailing ships, dry washing, pump water on outback farms, grind corn and many other things.
