The Roman kings did not live much of a legacy. The Roman monarchy lasted for 244 years in the archaic phase of Roman history. The history of ancient Rome continued for nearly a further 1,000 years. The monarchy was abolished and was followed by 482 years of republic, which then fell and was followed by 503 years of rule by emperors. The days of the kings soon became forgotten.
