I'm sorry, this isn't the answer you'll want to hear, but you really should not use either, ever. If your life were on the line though, and lighting your Zippo could save you, use the alcohol.
I would experiment a bit first with mineral spirits and regular paint thinner to see which is better.
Acetone (womens nail polish remover) is fairly good, mineral spirits is better and xylene or gasoline or diesel are very good.
Hardness is better.

Lutonal is BASF's name for poly(methyl vinyl ether); it comes in several different molecular weights, where the higher ones are generally diluted with something (water, ethanol or mineral spirits) to make them flow better.

It's not hard to use; oil flows out better and gives you more work time than an acrylic primer. It does however, require mineral spirits for cleanup and take longer to dry.

Alcohol is used to kill bacteria, but that is not the sort of spirits you mean I guess. There are only spirits in your imagination. They cannot harm you if you ignore them. Read better books.
