A contusion is a bruise. Contusions result from breaking small capillaries. A contusion of the brain can occur without an obvious bruise on the outside. A concussion involves a force to the brain itself. The brain hits the skull inside the head, with no fracture. A contusion of the brain and concussion of the brain both need time to heal. But a concussion is more serious than a contusion.
