Navajo are the largest tribe still alive in the US. There are over 300,000 enrolled members as of 2011. This is more than have ever lived at any other time. They live on the Navajo Nation which is in Arizona, New Mexico and in Utah. They also live in the surrounding states outside the Navajo Nation and all over the country. You must be at least 1/4 Navajo to be enrolled.
The Cherokee Nation have close to the same number. 288,749 in 2010. This is also much larger than any population number that can be figured out, even before 1492. To be Cherokee you have to be able to trace descent form the Dawes Roll in 1907.
