There are many hypotheses about the origins of language. There's no known way to study this seriously because it happened in prehistory and it's not in the fossil record. For over a hundred years ending in the late twentieth century some linguist organizations banned discussion of the topic as simply argumentative with no method of providing objective evidence to support claims.

On the other hand, any discussion banning any form of inquiry has to be approached with caution. There are vibrant and informative theories based on linguistics studies. Some such studies suggest that Sanskrit is the oldest language still spoken on earth; there may be other contenders. The language with the oldest currently known written evidence is Sumerian, going back to about 2900 BCE.

There is no definitive answer to which language came first in the world as it is impossible to trace back to the origins of human language. However, some of the oldest known languages include Sumerian, Egyptian, and Akkadian. These languages date back to around 3000 BCE.
