It all depends on what you need it for.
If most of what your doing is taking notes, web browsing, word proccessing, etc, then the MacBook Air should be fine.
If your an enginering student, doing HD video editing or other heavy processer work then the MacBook Pro would be better for the long run.
With the newer Apple laptops you will need to max out the ram as you won't be able to upgrade later as the ram is permanently install.
The MacBook Pro has more computing power, but it's bigger than the Air.

Mac products are generally very good with media and things like that. I would probably stick with a pc, preferrably a Dell or Toshiba
i say the macbook pro. as the proud owner of a macbook pro (leopard) and the formerly semi-proud owner of an hp w/ XP, i can safely say that i'd personally jump for the macbook pro
77% of incoming freshman had a high school GPA of 3.75 or higher; 88% were above a 3.5 GPA, so you need to consistently achieve grades between an A+ and B+.
Freshman is the first year in high school or college
I'd say either a Macbook original, or a Macbook Air. They are both small, and are the same price of $999. Don't go buying a Macbook Pro, that laptop is expensive and to a 12-year old, it makes no difference between a Macbook Air and Macbook Pro. Both MAcbook Air and original Macbook have high memory for games and school projects, downloads etc. Take note that the Macbook Air has no disc drive. So if he or she is into watching movies or playing CDs, choose the original Macbook. Hope this helps!
The short answer to this is to look for the basics. A freshman in college needs Internet access and basic word processing functions meaning that you should be able to find a laptop well under $1,000. The exception to this is if the student is an arts or graphic design major. In such case, you will need more than a basic laptop for school to be able to complete required projects. A college freshman is going to want a durable lighweight laptop with internet access a good processor and hardware compatibility for external hard drives, intranet connection and other uses.
i say u should get macbook pro cause it has got better features and its excellent for ur use ^_^
