WHAT IS MOM
If your 10GB hard disk is not detected, you dont need to change any bios mode. The motherboard will have problem detecting the hard drive. Search for your bios updates to get your hard drive detected.
LBA (logical block addressing) mode - http://hkmcomputers.com/aquestions2.aspx
Some BIOS support a method ofdata transfer that allow multiple data transfers each time software requests data. This method is called block mode and should be used if your hard drive and BIOS support it. However, if you are having problems with hard drive drive errors, you can try disabling block mode in CMOS setup.

Most external hard drives can be used as internal ones. Provided that the IDE, SATA, or SCSI interface of the external hard drive is the same as the desktop's system board hard drive interface. Users can remove the USB casing and proceed to plug the data and power cables into it. The external drive, just has an additional component, that's used to hook up with the USB port.
A jumper is used to complete a circuit on a motherboard or other device and thus signal a certain mode of operation, such as "the BIOS should be in recovery mode" or "this hard drive is the Master device."
CHS mode stands for Cylinder-Head-Sector mode, which is a way of addressing and accessing data on a hard disk drive. In CHS mode, data is organized and located on the disk based on a combination of the cylinder number, head number, and sector number. It was commonly used in older computer systems.
A hard Drive is used for storing information in. you plug it in a usb port and save the information into the hard drive.
External hard drives can use data from an internal hard drive as often as you'd like. To do this, you must have backup software installed on each drive that will allow you to back up the drive when necessary, even if you are not in front of your computer.
Permanent or Secondary storage - such as a hard drive, CD, DVD, or USB drive
Hard Drive configuration is used to define the Slave and master Hard Drive. When we are attaching more than one hard drive the configuration is used. Configuration is done by jumper setting which is available in back side of hard drive...1st two pins for master hard drive and last pins are slave..
