This laptop includes a 2GB ram, and can be upgraded up to a maximum of 8GB.
As far as I know the only way to get 8gb of ram is to buy it separately or get a customized laptop... With that option just about every laptop can support 8gb of ram as long as it is a 64-bit operating system
The cost of 8GB of RAM depends on the speed of the ram, the vintage of the computer it will go into and of course whether it is for a laptop or desktop computer.
dell m6400 with 16gb of ram
One can purchase Dell ram cards from Dell's website. They come in many varieties. They come in 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, and 16GB. The ram cards also come with different connector types such as DDR, DDR2, and DDR3.

64 bit. If it were a 32 bit, you would max at a little less than 4gb RAM.
There are many different dell laptops recommended. The best dell laptop I would recommend is the Latitude E6520 Laptop. It has 50 reviews and nearly a 4.0 rating out of 5.0.
According to Dell's support documents, the Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop supports a maximum of 1024 MB of DDR RAM, using two 512 MB modules.

I currently have a pretty bad processor (Intel Pentium 2020M) and 4GB of RAM. I don't do anything too crazy with my laptop but files would stop responding and certain things would take forever to load. So would buying an addition 8GB RAM (adding to the 4GB I already have, 12GB in total) help? If so, by how much. I prefer buying an 8 GB RAM compared to a 4GB as I can probably use the 8GB when I get a new Laptop in the future.
