Role of the CommissionerThere is a Commissioner for each territory, responsible for the administration of the Government of that territory. There are twenty-three members of the Executive Council of British Columbia, the body responsible for giving constitutional "advice" to the Lieutenant Governor of the province. Members of the Executive Council (usually referred to simply as ministers) are appointed by the Lieutenant Governor on the advice of the premier (also a member of the Executive Council).
Section 9 of the Constitution Act, 1867 vests executive government and authority in Her Majesty the Queen of Canada. The Queen exercises executive functions, however, only on the advice of the prime minister (the head of Government) and ministers who are accountable to the House of Commons.
The United States Attorney General provides legal advice to the executive offices. The position of Attorney General was created in 1789.
