In June 2015, there are several minor parties active in American national and local politics. These include the Tea Party, the American Communist Party, and the Libertarian Party.
The Green party
A minor party is one that has very few or no officially elected members. Examples of minor parties include the Green party and the Libertarian party.
The members of a minor party tend to support the platform of a major party.
President Obama is not a party. He is a member of a party. In America, there are two major (and several other minor) political parties. Mr. Obama is a member of the Democratic Party-- so, we would say he is a Democrat.
An example of a minor party focused on solving one problem in American life is the Green Party, which is dedicated to addressing environmental issues. They advocate for policies aimed at combatting climate change and promoting sustainability in all aspects of life.
