Your basic vampire is actually quite a pathetic creature able to steal life-force and that's about all. Most often they are mal-formed and grotesque. All these super powers you hear about are an off-shoot of the legend of Count Dracula who, besides being a vampire, was also a high level sorcerer. Being a vampire isn't high on anybodies list.
Werewolves have control issues -- unless your a descendant of King Lycoan but if you aren't then trust me you don't want the bother that comes with contagious dipantrophy.
