Scurvy is caused by a lack of vitamin C. Sailors in the 1700 and 1800's went on long voyages where fruits and vegetables containing vitamin C were not available to them because these foods would rot. The diet of these sailors consisted mainly of cured meats and biscuits. Today this disease is nearly obsolete due to modern nutrition, but it was the number one killer of sailors from the 1500-1800's.
One the sailors ship could tip over,Two the ship could crash and sink.
One of the worst conditions to strike sailors on long voyages was scurvy. Scurvy was the result of insufficient vitamins, due largely to the lack of fresh food. James Cook insisted his crew eat sauerkraut because it had Vitamin C, a vital component for warding off scurvy. Sauerkraut, or pickled cabbage, could be kept for a long period of time, yet retain its Vitamin C.
Could you be more specific of what your question asks? A short answer is carrots contain vitamin A.
One method could have been pickling the food.
The sailers used the sun and stars to know how far from the equator they were. Hope this helped :)
Scurvy. Lack of vitamin C can also result in frequent nose bleeds. Scurvy is the main one. It's not very common now, but it was a big problem back when sailors would be off at sea for months with no access to fresh fruits or vegetables. Lack of vitamin C leads to scurvy. (That's why British sailors ate limes, and were called "Limeys".)
There is more than one reason that your vitamin D is low. It could be due to lack on sunshine or poor diet.
No Vitamin D is from the sun smart one and just ice your elbow and let it be for like 2-3 weeks
Scurvy, which is a disease which is associated with the lack of vitamin C in the diet. it was a common problem faced by sailors in the early years of sea travel. This is one of the reasons why a halfway station was established at Cape Town, to provide fresh food and water to vessels travelling between Europe and the Far East/ Asia

One of it's function is to help with the eyes. If you have bad night vision it is a sign of lack of vitamin A. If you don't get enough vitamin A you can go blind. It is an essencial nutrient, which means that our bodies don't produce it, but we need it. Vitamin A supports your cell's membrain which helps fight infection. It also increases activity for White Blood Cells. I hope I helped ;)
