Austria-Hungary did not invade Serbia, they occupied Bosnia and Herzegovina in August 1878 in response to Russia's invasion of Serbia in 1877. Austria–Hungary declared neutrality when the conflict between Russia and Turkey escalated into the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878, and then signed an alliance with Germany in October 1879 and later with Italy in May 1882. This alliance was known as the Triple Alliance.
