Euglena don't fit in as really plants or animals. Though you can probably find more animal-like characteristics. Like animal cells, euglena don't have cell walls. They also have cilia and flagella that they can use to move and I think they can also acquire nutrients from things they digest, but they also have chloroplasts and can photosynthesize. That's why euglena are protists. They're sort of in the middle.
Cell walls are only found in plant cells. It is made out of a non-living-cellulose (cellulose is found in celery). The cell wall also gives protection to the cell membrane and the cell in general. it protects the cell from being shapeless. also the cell wall protects the cell from getting viruses.
The Euglena do not have a cell wall. What they have instead is a pellicle. The pellicle is what allows the shape to change.
