Actually, the heart beats on its' own with the SA node in the heart wall. Impulses from nerves from the spinal cord can cause the heart to speed up or slow down almost instantaneously.
Brain stem.
The second largest and important part of the brain, i.e Cerebellum controlls almost all body functions like heart beat,respiration,digestion..
A heart will beat for a little while until your brain shuts down.
Both are very important.DETAILS-THE HEART: Some would say the heart is more important because it pumps blood to all parts of the body, including the brain. Without the blood in the brain, the brain would not be able to control involuntary activities such as heart beat. Basically, the brain needs the heart to pump blood to it.THE BRAIN:There is one part of the brain that controls involuntary activities such as heart beat. (The name of that part is the medulla) Without the medulla, the heart would never be able to pump blood to other parts of the body. Even though, you still need the heart to pump blood to the brain to let it function and control.OPINION-In my opinion truly, I think the heart is the most important because of the latest technology, machines are able to act like medullas and control heart beating. But, in order to live a wonderful life, both organs the heart & the brain are needed. :) DEFINITIONS-Involuntary activities- actions that the body cannot control, it just happens. (examples: breathing, digesting, heart beat.)Medulla- a part of the brain that connects the spinal cord to the brain. It controls involuntary activities.(located on the bottom of the brain and is the smallest part of the brain.)
The brainstem has a part named the medulla oblongata, which controls the natural, life necessary functions, such as heart beat. This is commonly believed to be the only part of the brain that perople need to survive.
left part of heart
The heart has its own "nervous system" called "purkinje fibers", and so doesn't need the brain to beat ... but the thalamus [oldest part of the brain] does have "override" control via the autonomic nervous system (sympathetic by way of several unnamed nerves and parasympathetic by way of the Vagus nerve.

Q - What is the most important part of the brain?A - This answer is opinionated based on facts.Probably the medulla because it is the part of the brain that controls involuntary activities such as breathing, heart beat, & digestion. It also contacts with the spinal cord and spinal nerves. :)*Other parts of the brain include-Cerebrum,Cerebellum.

left part of heart
It circulates to your brain, but it circulates from your heart.
