- Old computers may be refurbished and sold or donated to schools and other groups that have no computers at all.
- Some computer can be disassembles so that useful components are salvaged, cleaned up, re-marketed. Problematically these can become counterfeit "new" parts and sold. This can create serious dependability problems.
- Outdated or unusable equipment can be reduced to small bits so that heavy metals, precious metals and other recoverable materials can be extracted. If directed to a land fill these materials can cause water pollution
The individual retail operations will provide information on which programme they use. You may also use a government controlled local or regional electronics disposal/recyvling option.
