In spring 1805, they continued to the headwaters of the Missouri River, struggled across the Continental Divide at Lemhi Pass, and headed west along the Salmon, Clearwater, Snake, and Columbia Rivers to the Pacific. They landed at the mouth of the Columbia River, Astoria, Oregon on November 7 1805. The day was rainy and foggy, and the Columbia River estuary was four or five miles wide and they could not see the Oregon side of the river or Point Adams at the mouth of the river in the distance. But they were close enough to have reached their goal.
The average depth below Shreveport to the mouth is about 12 feet. Of course, there are places in the river that are deeper. I know the depth on the Northern side of the dam in Colfax is between 20 and 25 feet. The river stage in Alexandria, LA right now on 2/4/11 is right at 20 feet.

The River Betsiboka. Its mouth is Mahajanga. The river flows north, just like the St. Johns in Florida, whose mouth is Jacksonville, Florida. (Actually, Mayport, but in Duval County, with its consolidated government with Jacksonville located all over the county. Jax is just the biggest nearby town to the mouth of the river.)
