The south was the slaveholding section, though there were still a few slaves in the north. Slavery had once been legal in all the states.
But the south was not fighting FOR slavery. Most Confederate soldiers did not own slaves. Slaves were expensive. Think about it - would you go fight, and fight hard, for years, just so some rich man could keep his slaves?
And the north was not fighting against slavery, at least not at first. The north was fighting to "preserve the Union", which the southern states wanted out of. The southerners were fighting for their independence. Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation came after a year and a half of war, and changed the war into one which we look back on today as "for" or "against" slavery.
In the civil war the south wanted slavery. The North had machines and wanted to abolish slavery. ; )
In the north side they did"nt have good weapons as the south did so therefore they were all killed differently
Calfornia extended so far either side of the Missouri line (North of which slavery was illegal) that it rendered the Missouri Compromise unworkable, so a new one had to be worked out. It was a patched-up deal, and it did not last.
Hard question, because he was the president of the US at the time of the civil war. He sort of supported the north because he did not like slavery and did not want the slavery in the US to spread. But overall he was just trying to help both sides. Lincoln was president of the United States, which during the war was the North..He wanted to preserve the Union above all else, even if it meant not freeing the slaves..His own words....
North
Yes they were fighting about slavery. The north side of the U.S. was fighting against slavery and south was fighting to keep slavery. Boo slavery!

The North had a larger fighting force than the South.
The North was fighting to preserve the union while the South was fighting because they wanted out of the union, but not necessarily to become individual states.

Major General William T. Sherman was a leader fighting for the North or Union side.
As Lincoln's Secretary of the Treasury, he was for the North
As the first lady of the North's president, she had to be on the side of the North. However, she was born and grew up in Kentucky and had many close relatives and friends who were fighting for the South.
union(north), confederates(south)
No, South Korea and the U.S. were on the same side. Both were fighting against North Korea.
