NO but when some tortoises are young they can due to their hollow shells.
No, it can walk through water as long as the water is not any higher than the top of its legs and never have water deeper than one and a half centimetres in a tortoise pen/vivarium
there are tortoises and turtles tortoises live on land and turtles swim and sometimes live underwater
The tortoise is the land-dweller. Turtles are primarily aquatic.
Gorillas are the only animal in the world that can not swim. This is due to their low center of gravity.
Odd one is: Fish (can't live outside water!)Frog, Tortoise, Crab - can survive both in water as well as on land
If you meant 'tortoise' and not 'tortuous'...The majority of land tortoises are unable to swim, as they do not have limbs or bodies built for this kind of activity and lack the webbed feet used by the aquatic turtles. If a tortoise falls into deep water, like a pond or river, then they tend to sink like a stone and drown. However, tortoises do enjoy bathing in water, and will wade in very shallow water. As long as the water level is not above the tortoises head, they are safe.If a tortoise is kept as a pet, it is important to provide a shallow dish of water for it to drink from and stand in. It is essential that the dish is the correct shape and position so it will not tip over when the tortoise tries to climb back out again. There are one or two species of tortoise that are able to float, and maybe swim a little way using a "doggy paddle" style, but these are few and far between and not normally kept as pets.Read more: Can_tortoises_swim

The GiANT TORTOiSE..
Yeah. If you would take a look at a picture of a red eared slider, and then of a gopher tortoise, what differences can you see? Well, the tortoise has bigger, more elephant-like legs, used for walking on land. The shell is more of a dome shape. The turtle, on the other hand, has webbed feet and a streamlined shell-he's built for swimming. The tortoise can't swim, it'll sink.
Gorillas are the only animal in the world that can not swim. This is due to their low center of gravity.
