If it is a 1/2 ton then it MUST have a 4-wheel drive 4L60E transmission put in it.
If it is a 3/4 ton then it MUST have the 4L80E 4-wheel drive transmission put back in it. 2-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive transmissions are different. They will NOT interchange.
4l60 or a 4l80
Yes it will fit right in there no problems. As long as they are both 2 wheel drive or they are both 4 wheel drive. Can not mix them up.
The transmission is the same.
NO. The center shaft in the 4-wheel and 2-wheel drive transmissions are a DIFFERENT length. WILL not interchange.
The transmission is the same
NO. The 2-wheel drive transmissions have a SHORTER CENTER SHAFT in them because there is no transfur case that goes on them. The 4-wheel drive transmissions have a LONGER center shaft that sticks out further because it has to go into the transfur case. You can take both transmissions apart and switch the center shafts and then it will work. It's NOT about the tail end of the transmission.
I'm not a mechanic / technician but the transmission for a 4x4 has a different tailpiece on it so the transfer case can be bolted to it

It does not have a drive shaft as such. It has a transaxle which which converts the power of the engine to the wheels. The transaxle also serves as the transmission.
