Interestingly, in the history of Catholic missionary efforts, some of the fiercest opposition encountered was from early Medieval tribes in Northern Europe. Saint Boniface (672-754), for example, after laboring for many years among the people of Friesland, in modern-day the Netherlands, remarked that without continued protection from the Emperor, he could not hope to administer his church, or protect his clergy. Saint Boniface and several dozen of his companions were ultimately martyred by his enemies among the pagan inhabitants of Friesland.
Twelve hundred years later, we see a young Catholic priest emerge from a region not far from the vicinity that witnessed Boniface's martyrdom. His name is Father Damien de Veuster (1840 -1889) and he wants to labor among the people of Molokai, in Hawai'i, the island home of the outcast lepers who are sent into isolation to await their death. Fr. Damien went to Molokai, knowing there was no likelihood of return for him. He went there to build decent homes, a clinic, a school for the children - for there was nothing for the lepers - and he wanted to build a church for them, too. The Belgian priest met with resistance from the lepers, at first, too, but many worked with him, and many accepted Christ. Father Damien will be canonized this fall in Rome. He is the unofficial patron of those afflicted with HIV and AIDS.

Define "resisting by silence." There is such a thing as "Resisting Without Violence" for which you can be arrested (in jurisdictions which have such a statute on their books - Fla for example) where you intentionally, but without struggling, go limp - refuse to cooperate with the officers efforts to move you - and just generally passively resist the officer without violence
