Australia fought in wars with Britain because Britain OWNED Australia until after World War 2. The wars after that in which they fought together with the Brits were when they were doing United Nations military functions. They have not fought in any war because OF their desire to support Britain but because they are allies together in the United Nations.
Because Australia was still technically part of the British Empire ( a Dominion) and was bound by an alliance that required it to participate in wars which involved its "sovereign" country( in this case Britain).
One of the main reasons that Australia got involved was out of alligence and loyaty to the "Mother Country" or Britain. However there were many other contributing factors. For example, most people at the time thought the war would be over in six months. They thought it would be a great opportunity to see the world and have an adventure. Some people also thought that Australia should get involved to stop the enemy ever reaching Australia. Although overall the main reason we got involved was to help our friends in Britain.
Australia had long answered the call to support Britain, becoming involved in everything from the Maori Wars, Sudan, South Africa, World War 1 - South Australia even offering a contingent for the Zulu War, all of which did not threaten Australia until Japan's entry to WW2.
Australia got involved in ww2 for a number of reasons. 1. Australia had no real defence force at the time and if there was an invasion Australia would suffer greatly and therefore relied on Britain heavily for support 2. Australia still had close ties with Britain. As stated in the 1901 constitution Australia's defence and foreign policy was basically that of Britain. 3. Australia was still largely inhabited by Britain's who felt a dire need to protect and help the "mother Country"
World War2
Britain and Australia form an alliance because if Australia thought that if they support Britain and protect Britain from ever being invaded, Australia would receive the same respect back. Britain is also allianced with the United States, so Australia formed with them too for more protection. They would also be able to do more trades ( Trade Minerals and different types of products, etc.) In a more simpler term, it's basically: "You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours". Hope this helped xo
Australia enters wars that don't involve it because of the other countries involved. Australia is allied to USA, Britain, New Zealand, Singapore and Malaysia. Being allied to these countries means that Australia shows support to its allies in war and other difficult times. By doing this Australia helps other countries that may help it when Australia is in difficult times. This relationship is important for the growth, wellbeing and relations of Australia.
Australia's fought in the Boer War, World War One and Two to support Britain
Great Britain specifically did not support Australia in the Vietnam War even though allied under SEATO to resist communist aggression in South East Asia, becoming in many Australian eyes Little England.
The Australians became involved in WW1 because they wanted to help England in the coming war so when Australia was in any kind of political or economical trouble England would be there to help them. another reason is that Australians feared the Chinese and Islanders might take over the country and if that happened England would help them.
France became involved in WWII the same day as Britain: September 3rd 1939. It joined the war because it with Britain had declared to support Poland's independence. Therefore when Germany invaded Poland, France lived up to its statement and started to fight to defend it.
