Victory in the Spanish-American War provided the United States with a large military empire, as they gained control of Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Guam, a Pacific island between Hawaii and the Philippines. The U.S also gained status as a world power. They also gained oppurtunities and misfortunes that would ultimately decide the future of Americas foreign policy.

Like with most wars, there were many results following the Spanish American war. Some of the most notable results were that Cuba became an independent nation with American protection, tensions with the Philippines escalated, and both Guam and Puerto Rico became United States territories.

The United States exerts its Imperial power by defeating Spain in what is nicknamed the "Splendid Little War." As a result the United States gain the colonies of Puerto Rico, Guam and the Philippines. Inside the United States there is a debate over the future of Cuba and while Cuba does gain its independence it is forced to add the Platte Amendment making Cuba a protectorate of the United States. Primarily they can make any decision they wish, but any international trade or relations need to be okay-ed by the United States. The United States also gains permanent control of Guantanamo Bay which is still controlled by the United States Military today.
