According to Honda specs, the 4-cylinder model is rated at 150hp at the flywheel. This translates to approximately 132hp at the wheelbase for a stock vehicle as per dyno tests performed by Import Tuner magazine (can't remember the exact issue number.) A 1999 V6 model is rated by the manufacturer at 200hp (at the flywheel.) I don't know exactly how much that translates to wheelbase power but, by interpolation, it should roughly translate to 176hp.


I personally had the vehicle up to 115 mph at around 6500 rpms, and I have owned a non-sport Highline Sedan. The rev limiter is set at approximately 7500 rpms. The Highline may not have a very high top speed as the engine is only a 2.0L SOHC with a 132hp engine whereas the Sport has a 2.0L DOHC with a 150hp engine. I'm sure with the added 18hp, you may be able to hit speeds of about 130mph. But these earilier-model Neons do not handle well at high speeds and tend to shake violently and "drift" at the slightest turn of the steering wheel. Very unpredictable. Given the Neon's long track record of multi-system failures, I would obey the speed limit if I were you! Check this out:

Edit: I forgot to mention that the cars that came with a DOHC had a bulge in the hood while the SOHC cars had a flat hood. If the hood was changed or the car was in an accident then it is an unreliable way to tell.
