I believe this because the same officers that fought in the Mexican-American War also fought in the American Civil War, which if it weren't for the Mexican-American War the officers in the Civil War might have had different tactics, which could have lead to a different outcome of the Civil War. This alternative outcome would have been the Southern United States successfully succeeding from the Union and the eventual takeover of the Northern and Southern United States by Britain, Spain, and France.
