The side with the spring goes toward the engine.
There is only 1 way the serpentine belt will go on, there is no alternate way.
I think the only way to get to it is to go inside the trunk. You will see the wires going up to it. Then after you losen it then you go back in side the car to change it.
YES, It is done all the time. You can put it in a go-Kart if you know what you are doing. That is an EASY job to do on that cutlass.
check your local auto wreckers,they should have what you need.that's what i do,i take my tools go find what I'm looking for,remove what i need and go pay for it.its the cheapest way to go and they do give a warranty and replacement guarantee.

You need to search for wiring diagram for 1981 cutlass. Or just go to your local Autozone or whatever and buy a haynes manual . All diagrams are in it.It is a simple matter of hooking up the 12v usually to the red wire with a inline fuse. The ground wire - black . The speaker wires - usually green and brown or yellow or blue striped , should be 4 . Perhaps an antenna wire - might be orange. Perhaps a remote wire - might be blue .

It seems that they most problems with the 93' Oldsmobile cutlass supreme would be the engine and the break. Those seem to go out the most on this car.
