Always disconnect the negative cable first. When reconnecting both cables, connect the positive first. This will prevent any sparks or shorts.
This would be an Electromagnet...... If the battery is disconnected, then the iron bar will become a permanent magnet.
If the battery is good and the starter is good, then you must have a wire disconnected somewhere.

Check your wire from battery to starter, sounds like it may have been pulled loose.
It is called an Electromagnet, when disconnected, it loses it's magnetism.

the bronco needs to have the ground wire connected from the battery to the body. if you replaced the battery and disconnected that ground it simply won't start.
May be you accidently disconnected a sensor wire doing the repairs. Maybe you have to reprogram the vehicle computer because the battery was disconnected. LOL
