Edward VI was the son of Henry VIII and Jane Seymour. Edward came to the throne at nine years old on his father's death in 1547. Powerful nobles were his advisers and used the regency to their own advantage. During Edward's reign he introduced in 1547 The Book of Common Prayer, in English, further emphasising the status of the Anglican church. Forcing church services in English rather than Latin caused rebellion in Devon and Cornwall. He died at fifteen of tuberculosis in 1553 and was succeeded by Lady Jane Grey.
