Nikita Khrushchev is most well known for being the Russian Leader of the Soviet Union from 1953 to 1964. He is also known for the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Because of the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis. Castro wanted to start nuclear war because he believed that the US would nuke him first. So Fidel wrote a letter to Nikita Sergeyevich Krushchev that basically said that if there was going to be a nuclear war, Russia should launch their missiles first. Luckily Krushchev didnt agree with him (that was the Cuban Missile crisis), and everyone thought he was insane for wanting to start nuclear war.

politically Kennedy as he gained much support from the public for the results whilst Krushchev was greatly criticized by the USSR and China. However, realistically Krushchev appeared to have come out on top. Not only did he ensure the removal of missiles in Turkey but he also guaranteed the success of the communist government in Cuba by ensuring America would never invade it. Both of these point directly opposed Kennedy's initial aim of unconditional withdrawal and the desire to keep communism out of US spheres of influence.
