Many people can receive Zakat. This word basically means 'charity' which means that anyone who is not as fortunate as you, can receive all of your donations. many Muslims donate to countries such as Africa, or countries that have been struck with a climatic hazard. You can also give to charities, where the people may have physical or mental abnormalities. There are many people who can receive Zakat.
Payment of Zakat is compulsory for all adult sane Muslims who are in possession of wealth equal to Nisba (limit). This is equivalent to possessing 87.27 grams of gold or 610.90 gms of silver or currency of equivalent value in your possession for one year and is calculated as 2.5% of your wealth to give to charity once every year.
Zakat is given to poor and needy muslims, muslims in debts, muslim students who are poor and need finances for studying and propagating Islam, muslims stranded in foreign lands and in need of help, new muslim converts to help them to settle, muslim prisoners, and even your poor relatives who are in need.

Yes most certainly. One of the pillars of Islam is Zakat I.e. charity and every Muslim has to give charity.
Alms means charity. In Islam, we call that zakat. It is obligatory to give away 2.5% of one's revenue & savings and 10% of one's income to the poor. If one is poor and cannot give zakat however, then Allah [SWT] shall forgive that person because Allah [SWT] is the Most Merciful.
no a wife cant give zakat or money of zakat to her husband under the masarif of zakat.
You become sinful and disobeying God commands. You will punished on the day of Judgement unless you repent and repay what is due to be repaid as Zakat. if you deny zakat intentionally and knowingly you become expelled from being Muslim as Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam. Refer to question below.
Salam, Al hamodullah I give directly to them, as we then know the money where it is going. 2.5% of your income after deductions to the masjed. Zakat Al Mal 10 dollars per person for Ramadan Zakat - Zakat Al Fitr Anything else is sudica (charity). We give if we can, if we are in debt then we need to get out of that and back above zero. Its hard in today's world not to accept credit so may Allah help those who are in debt inshAllah amin. Peace Ankaboot
Charty in Islam is called "sadaqa" If it is given by Muslims as a good action any time and any where or "Zakat" which is the compolsory one given by rich persons every year to official zakat collectors, if available, in order to distribut it in organized way otherwise it can be given directly to charitable people. Zakat value is equal to 2.5% of of the value of what you owned as a saving and still with you since one year, if those savings reaches a cetain minimum. During the time of Khalifa Omar Ibn Abdel Aziz, Zakat system was perfectly applied officialy and after a period of time the zakat distributors could not find to whom they give zakat. That money was then used to build hospitals, schools, and many public establishments. Many more can be found about Zakat in Islam literature, which available in the web.
Zakat. This means 'charity' or 'giving'. Every year, Muslims give 2.5% of their income to charity, and because Zakat is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, it implies quite a lot to Muslims.
Zakat is the Fourth Pillar of Islam. It is also a duty of a Muslim sister or brother. When you donate your Zakat, it will hopefully be distributed to the less fortunate or the poor. It includes: young childern, adults, elderly people, disabled, etc. May Allah (SWT) give blessings to those who give Zakat and help those in need. Ameen.
