Throw history they were enemies and allies to. Austria helped Serbia to gain independence from Otoman empire. Austria also helped Serbia to become kingdom in 1882. The era of Serbian - Austrian alliance ended when Serbian King Alexander Obrenovic was assassinated and the new family came to rule. The new Karadjordjevic dynasty was pro Russian and Serbia and Austria became enemies. Them the WW1 started etc.. Today they are friendly oriented but not allies..
