Ethnics of Fiji:
Native fijians are predominatly Melanesian with some Polynesian ancestory.
The largest group of Fijians other then the natives are Indians, Chinese, neighbouring pacific islanders, Europeans, Others.
I was looking at this recently, so I can help you. Usually when you look up Fijians you see people that resemble ethnic Indians, because those people actually came over from India so they are referred to as Indo-Fijian. However, when I looked up ethnic Fijians they definitely look they they are black or descended from Africa. Apparently people say, "no they're classified as Pacific Islander", but they have mostly, if not all features of African descendants.
I've seen people (on yahoo ask and answer) say, well just because they look black, have hair like black people, and skin like black people doesn't mean they're black, because all there features developed in Fiji. Well to those people: black people in America have been there for four centuries, as long as the inhabitants of Fiji, are you going to say that their features developed in America or came from Africa? Obviously Africa, hence why they are called African-Americans...so how can anyone deny African roots of indigenous Fijians, especially when they themselves say they came from Africa.
I hope that helps you =)
The Indigenous Fijians are believed to be from Tanzania in Africa. Way before Fiji was discovered, the Lapita people have been inhabiting the land for centuries - these are people from South East Asia. After their distinction, "Lutunasobasoba" was believed to be from Tanzania who sailed through the Indian ocean across to the Pacific and finally in now known as Fiji. Indigenous Fijians come in many faces, color and features. Half of native fijians are either Polynesian Fijian whose ancestors are from Tonga while the rest of the native fijians are Melanesians. Fiji is the only country in the South Pacific to be of both Melanesia & Polynesia.
